What Is The Retro Collective?
The Retro Collective is a monthly magazine, international in outlook and co-operative in spirit. The Retro Collective is all about style, whether that’s an individual’s scene or the products from the world around them. Every month there will be over 30 pages of retro inspired product reviews with sections including: lifestyle, gadgets, fashion, music, film and sports. Each issue will include feature length articles covering the heritage of brands; brand anniversaries; iconic figures, perspectives and styles; interviews and inspired trends.
How The Retro Collective Started
The Retro Collective was conceived in The Defectors Weld, Shepherds Bush in February2009 after a conversation about the heritage of a mate’s new Crombie. All four present knew it had been worn by the skinheads during the 60s, but digging over the subsequent weeks unearthed the 204 year Crombie history and the first The Retro Collective heritage article was fashioned. In May 2009 five NCTJ trained journalists, ranging in age from 23 to 54 (with experience spanning from national newspapers to top-end fashion and lifestyle magazines) met at the Journalist Works in Brighton, and began working on the first issue of The Retro Collective.
Who Is The Retro Collective For?
Each month The Retro Collective will be mailed to the top 5000 thought-leaders and early adopters of style-led industries (including designers, journalists, fashionistas, celebrities and trend predictors).
A typical reader is: James, 27, employed as a senior designer at a leading sports apparel brand. Living in London, he has high disposable income, is a collector of classic trainers, rare vinyl, old skool stereo speakers and Utility furniture. With all purchases he considers the longevity of style and its collectability. At work he is constantly looking for classic designs and concepts to shape and inspire his own ideas.
